Listening to "A Change is Gonna Come"

 

The song that I listened to this week is “A Change is Gonna Come” By Sam Cooke. Not only is the music itself incredible, but the lyrics in this song are powerful and moving. They address the racial injustice that has occurred and continues to happen in today’s society. Sam Cooke tells a story with his lyrics. He talks about how because of this injustice, there have been a lot of hard things in his life. The line “It’s been a long time coming, but I know a change is going to come, oh yes it will” is repeated several times throughout this song. This line really takes the message home. There isn't a specific audience for this song. The message is one for all to hear. It can give hope to those who are not treated right, and it is also a plea for others to bring about a change. Sam Cooke’s voice fits wonderfully for this song. There are people who have great singing voices, and then there are people who can paint a picture and make you feel a certain way with their voice. Sam Cooke is one of those people. His voice is smooth and powerful. You can hear the emotion in his voice, and you can tell that he is singing from his heart. I highly recommend listening to this song.
